Thanks to Overboard creator Chip Dunham for issuing these very important pet care reminders.

I LOVE THIS CARTOON! It’s been on my refrigerator since it ran in my local paper on 07/31/07. Chip Dunham, the artist, periodically issues these reminders to pet owners who travel with their pets. Thanks, Chip!

I encourage you to check out his work… and if you like it, ask your local paper to carry OVERBOARD!

After suffering what appeared to be a stroke about a month ago, Billie the Lovebird passed away Sunday morning. It was one of those passings that we knew was coming intellectually and somewhat emotionally. He really got a long quite well in the past month, even developing a new way of moving around his cage to get to food, water, grit. He even gnoshed on corn and spinach. We’ll see you at the Rainbow Bridge, dear Billie. Give our love to those who’ve gone before:

The ENTIRE Bird Brigade you outlasted

So, we’re now the home to two dogs and a turtle. We also have an unwanted guest: a varmit that is eating my tomatoes and peaches. (I’m NOT happy, and help is coming to eliminate him from the kitchen! Then again, shouldn’t the basset hound be on this? I mean her door opening skills did contribute to the issue. )

Do Some Good: BUY GOOD BUDDY MIMI’S MAC & CHEESE

Doncha’ just love it when you find a product that’s not only good for your pet, but does some good for shelter dogs, too? Usually, I shun products not made in the United States, but when I read the Buy 1 Box & We Donate 1 Meal, I was intrigued. (Read the side of the box below.)

So I checked the back. The product is made by our friends to the north, Canada(Hi, friends in Canada!) and distributed by a group in Oregon to stores like Sprouts, where we found this box.

Now, GOOD BUDDY treats were running about $4.75 a box where as the other treats were running $7 for about 3 fewer ounces of treats. (Yes, this does matter to the hound and the husky-cross. If you think dogs don’t know how to do math, give one more treat to one dog and see what the other(s) do.)

The other cool thing about this promotion is that it was launched by a 12-year-old girl’s mission to feed hungry shelter dogs in Bend, OR. She created a website called, freekibble.com. As of this writing, FreeKibble.com has donated over 3 million meals to shelter animals. since Mimi launched the site on April 1, 2008. (NO FOOLIN’!)

While flipping around the channels tonight, I saw something I have to applaud.

Perhaps you saw the trailers for the Hannah Montana movie. Ms. Cyrus was riding a horse without a helmet. Today, in a preview for the new Disney Channel program, Hannah Montana Forever, I saw Miley Cyrus wearing a riding helmet while riding.

KUDOS to Disney Channel and Ms. Cyrus for setting a good example for others! Thanks for the help!

What does every home with pets need? A ROOMBA by iRobot.

The Pet Series works every bit as well as your upright, but will vacuum your home up to 7 days a week. Yes, you have to clean the bin and brushes more frequently than your upright, but the time savings is appreciated. Further, you can program it to vacuum when you’re not home. Imagine, being able to check a chore off your list so you can spend more time with your pets!
